Inaugural Poverty Action Conference 2009

TDC's First Annual Poverty Action Conference provides an exciting opportunity for like-minded individuals to come together and share the creative ways that they are working to combat poverty and promote economic development. This event will feature several well-known speakers with expertise in the field of development. It will also offer participants the opportunity to present their unique programs to their peers and a panel of experts who will assist them in streamlining their program’s objectives, and overcoming the difficulties many young organizations face in transitioning from theory to practice. Participants will be invited to participate in sessions where they will be introduced to concepts that will help them shape their path toward a sustainable and successful future. These sessions will address such topics as Microfinance, navigating the non-profit incorporation process, and managing the government and policy aspects of operations in the U.S. and abroad. All participants are encouraged to submit their own ideas for sessions that would be of interest to them, and to be ready to discuss the challenges they have encountered during the development and implementation of their own programs. In a supportive network of peers, the Poverty Action Conference will provide existing groups with the knowledge to overcome the difficulties they encounter on-the-ground, and introduce people who would like to get involved to both existing programs and new ideas that they can utilize in their own initiatives. This conference is in partnership with Americans for Informed Democracy.
